Thomas Friedman discovers India

A genuine attempt from Thomas Friedman, the Pulitzer prize-winning NY Times commentrator, to understand the emerging India and how outsourcing and information technology is changing the country. Despite some flaws, this documentary telecast in Discovery Channel proves to be insightful and thought provoking. You can watch the video here.

Have you had the chance to read the book? I thought that this documentary was alright and I do admire Friedman's optimism but I find the book very one dimensional. He talks a lot about the benefits and 'flattening' of globalization but even in his best examples developing countries produce instead of designing and innovating.

One of his big examples of 'flatting' is Indians transcribing for American doctors. In a truly flat world, they'd be trasncribing for each other.

However, I'm only half way through...but that's still a couple hundred pages.

If you've read the book I'd love to hear your thoughts on it! And thanks for the link to the documentary!

I havent read the book but read some reviews on it - which were not so promising.
As you said his theories on 'flatness' without actually innovating is somewhat dubious.
